Casabermeja Cemetary: Memorable Fragments
"Marlis places and organizes her show as a pious and courageous provocation, to incorporate those “symbol images” born out of the decay of a taboo-myth (the automobile with its entire world) into the mental landscapes of those who visit the cemetary of Casabermeja in these days."
Juan M. Gomez Segade, Catalog
“...Marlis Leue, has confronted this eternal and affable architecture with used auto parts. On the bulletin board at the entrance we find official lists of traffic mortalities, flanked by old tires which double as flower coronas. On the access path to the chapel various traffic signs and two wrecked cars simulate an accident. And in the chapel, a multitude of sculptural pieces created out of automobile fragments. In some cases the author has combined pieces of ceramics created for the occasion and elements related to alcohol.”
H. Márquez, El Pais, 1994
